Retrospective planning permission was successfully secured on appeal for the retention of a veranda and external access steps on the property’s rear elevation with the installation of a pair of doors to enable access from the lounge to the new veranda and the cladding of part of the rear elevation.
The key to the success of this appeal was justifying that the development that that had already been undertaken, was of sympathetic construction, successfully safeguarded neighbouring residential amenities and also protected the property’s prominent hillside South Downs National Park location.
On allowing the appeal and granting permission, the appointed Inspector agreed with our assessment by reaching the conclusion that the existing development and likely use of the veranda would not cause a significant loss of privacy for occupiers of neighbouring residential properties.
