Saltdean Kennels, Saltdean

Outline planning permission was successfully secured for a scheme of residential development comprising 2no. 2-bed, 2no. 3-bed and 3no. 4-bed houses on this former kennels site which occupies an elevated position on the northern edge of Saltdean and abuts the South Downs National Park.

By virtue of its urban fringe location and, therefore, its close relationship with the adjoining countryside, a key challenge for this project was to successfully address, respect and therefore mitigate any potential impacts on existing habitats and the visually important wider landscape.

This project will not only add another 7no. houses to Brighton & Hove City Council’s housing stock but will also significantly improve the residential qualities for occupiers of nearby houses as the noises and smells that are typically associated with kennels will never be re-introduced to the area.
