The Ridgewaye, Tunbridge Wells

Planning permission was successfully secured on appeal for a backland scheme of development – comprising the erection of 3no. 3-bed chalet-style bungalows with associated scheme of landscaping.

At Tunbridge Borough Council’s Planning Committee, the majority of Members were of the view that the development, by virtue of its scale, bulk and coverage in relation to the size of the site would be at odds with the prevailing pattern and form of development and thus the character of the area.

Key to the successful outcome of this appeal was drawing the Inspector’s attention to other similar forms of backland development that were located in close proximity to the appeal site that had been permitted by the Borough Council in recent year, which in turn had altered the area’s character.
